Nico van Eijk is Professor of Media and Telecommunications Law and Director of the Institute for Information Law (IViR, Faculty of Law, University of Amsterdam). He studied Law at the University of Tilburg and received his doctorate from the University of Amsterdam. His fields of research include media, telecommunications, privacy, freedom of expression, national security/surveillance and internet related topics such as internet governance and net neutrality. He also works as an independent legal adviser. He advises law firms, companies and (semi-)governmental organizations. For more than twenty years, he has been active in the financial sector (telecom and media transactions). Among other things, he is a member of the knowledge network of the Dutch Review Committee on the Intelligence and Security Services (CTIVD).
